THE FOUNDATION FAMILY STORIES
Abigail a 2016 Esperanza scholarship recipient, triumphed over many obstacles. As a young child, Abbie grew up in poverty. She was abandoned by her father at age 3, an act that placed her mom in financial hardship and Abbie heartbroken. Yet, her mother was bound and determined to work to give her precious daughter a safe, stable environment. When Abbie was seven, her mother found an opportunity to start a new life and the duo left the island of Puerto Rico to set up their home in Cleveland, Ohio.

Esperanza Scholarship Recipient Miguel Sanchez defines the hope that Carlos is working towards providing for all children. Parents, as Carlos believes, are one of the most important foundations from which strength and success stems. He spends hours with his children, reading and playing, and is inspired by the support Miguel received from his family as well. Miguel was motivated to overcome past challenges and build a better life for himself, because of his parents’ determination.

They provide education, support, and scholarships to the Hispanic community in Northeast Ohio and help many children get from their early educational years, all the way through college. Esperanza, Inc. recently had a success story in Dagmaris Miranda.
Dagmaris Miranda participated in the Esperanza Latina Leadership Alliance (ELLA) group mentoring program since 2012. She was incredibly shy and anxious. After the first year of active participation, her grades, confidence, public speaking skills improved by 30%. She’s turned into a confident, articulated, motivated and victorious young adult; this is the same kind of transformation that the Carlos Carrasco Foundation knows every child can complete with a little help!
